What is a Sun Spot?
Sun spots are called "solar lentigo" in medicine. They usually occur in fair-skinned people as a result of prolonged and unprotected sun exposure. They are most commonly seen in areas exposed to the sun such as the face, back of the hands, shoulders and décolleté. They are brown in color, have distinct borders and are usually flat on the surface.

Why Does It Occur?
Sun rays increase melanin production in the skin. Over time, this melanin accumulates on the skin surface and causes blemishes. These blemishes become more noticeable, especially as we age. Solarium use can also trigger these blemishes.

Are Sun Spots Permanent?
The type of blemish, skin color and depth determine its permanence. Superficial blemishes can be lightened to a great extent with regular skin care and medical applications. Longer treatment may be required for deep blemishes.

What are the Treatment Options?
There are many effective medical and cosmetic methods for sun spots. The treatment should be planned specifically for the person and should definitely be applied under the supervision of a specialist.

Blemish lightening creams: Products containing active ingredients such as vitamin C, niacinamide, retinol, and kojic acid can lighten the color of the stain when used regularly.

Chemical peeling: The upper layer of the skin is gently peeled off to renew the layer where the stain is located.

Laser treatments: Methods such as Q-Switch laser and IPL can provide successful results in sunspots. These procedures are generally preferred in the winter months.

Supportive Care that Can Be Applied at Home
Vitamin C serums, tonics containing AHA-BHA, and regular moisturizing can support sunspot treatment. However, full results should not be expected with these products alone.

Protection is More Effective Than Treatment
Preventing sunspots from reoccurring is as important as removing them. For this reason:

Broad-spectrum, high-factor sunscreen should be used every day.

Care should be taken not to be outside during the hours when the sun is at its most intense.

Physical protection methods such as hats and sunglasses should not be neglected.
