Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal is the process of permanently removing unwanted hair using laser devices.
After getting FDA approval in 1998, laser hair removal has become the most frequently applied cosmetic procedure all over the world. We have been using it safely in our polyclinic since 2004.
In order to get the best laser epilation results, the latest laser technologies should be used, and the appropriate device should be selected according to skin color, hair thickness and color. Now, if we summarize the laser devices used in laser epilation;

Hair Removal with Alexandrite Laser
This device, which has the most effective wavelength among Laser Epilation applications, is preferred as the best epilation device. It can be applied without damaging nearby tissues. The Alexandrite Laser, which has a wavelength of 755 nm, has a large head. For this reason, it affects larger areas faster. It shortens epilation sessions. It has a high refrigerant system, so the process is easier. The best results of the Alexandrite laser are obtained in people with fair skin and thick and dark hair. Because this device is well held by melanin, which gives the hair its color. This results in a more effective epilation process in light-colored people. The most preferred laser system in epilation is the Alexandrite laser. The reason for this is that it gives very good results in laser epilation and is easy to use. Aleksandrite laser shoots from a distance, it does not touch the skin, it is a healthier and easier application.

Diode Laser Hair Removal
Diode lasers are laser systems that produce 810 nm lasers. Diode laser also has FDA approval. FDA is the approval system that shows the effectiveness and safety of the device used in all medical devices.
Due to the wavelength that the diode laser gives, it goes deeper into the skin, and should be used especially in areas where the skin is thick and hair follicles are deep, such as the neck of a man. Since the diode laser goes deep into the skin, the procedure is painful. Ice laser systems have been developed to reduce pain.
Ice laser is known as ice laser hair removal because it has a very good cooling system. During applications with this device, the heating of the skin is prevented. This ensures a less painful and safer epilation.

ND YAG Laser Hair Removal
This system, which is included in the Laser Epilation systems, is recommended for very dark colored and tanned people. This system, which produces light at a wavelength of 1064 nm, is less likely to burn the skin. It is preferred by people with dark and thin hair. Laser hair removal is more difficult for people with dark and thin hair, and it requires multiple epilation sessions. Q swicht form of Nd yag laser can be used in people with thin hair. Q swicht laser makes the hairs yellow and thin. It is a good alternative in areas with fine hair, such as the face area.

On Which Body Areas Can Laser Hair Removal Be Applied?
Laser Epilation can be safely applied to all hairs on the body except eyelashes. Of course, the appropriate device should be selected according to the regions. For example, absolute alexandrite laser should be used in areas where the hair is thick and hard, such as bikinis. Alexandrite laser is both more effective on thick hair and it is a healthier choice in the bikini area as it shoots from a distance without touching the skin.
It is difficult for the alexandrite laser to act on areas where the hair is thin and light, such as the face and arms. In areas where the hairs are thin and cannot be seen by the alexandrite laser, it would be more appropriate to perform hair bleaching with the Q switch laser.

Does laser hair removal completely remove hair?
Laser hair removal completely destroys thick and black types. Fine and light colored hairs are difficult. It requires more sessions, there is a very noticeable reduction in very thin types, but it may not be completely finished. It does not give any results on white hairs.

How many sessions does laser hair removal give results?
In areas where the hairs are thick and black, such as underarms, bikini lines, and lower legs, there is usually no need for another epilation session in 6-8 sessions. Even in incomplete patients, there are very significant reductions. In addition, it is difficult to remove hair in areas where the hair is thin, such as the face and neck. It usually requires more than 10 sessions. In areas where the bristles are thin, the bristles may not be completely finished and may remain thin and sparse.

What to Consider Before and After Laser Epilation?

Before laser epilation, some important points should be taken into consideration in order to obtain the best results from the procedure and to protect it healthily. First of all, it should be careful not to have the procedure done in places that are not under the supervision of a doctor. It should also be checked that the devices are FDA approved.

Before the procedure,

It is important to protect from the sun approximately 4-6 weeks before the procedure, because tanned skin laser beams are devices that target melanin pigment. Tanned skin, that is, skin with increased melanin pigment, may be more sensitive to laser and the risk of burns or spots increases.

In addition, since the hair roots must be protected before epilation, it is important to avoid methods that destroy the roots such as waxing, tweezing or epilator.

Laser epilation is absolutely not harmful when done with the right device in appropriate doses. The appropriate dose is important because the laser device is ineffective when used at low doses. In high doses, it can cause skin burns. For this reason, do not do laser epilation in places where there is no doctor, anyway, laser epilation is legally prohibited in beauty salons. As a dermatologist, I have been safely practicing this procedure, which is in his field of expertise, for years.

The laser epilation device does not harm the ovaries, lymph nodes or any other organ. The devices we use are FDA approved laser devices. It only affects the substance called melanin in the hair, does not affect other parts of the body, does not harm.

Laser devices do not produce radiation, they produce light energy. It certainly does not cause cancer. It has been widely used all over the world since 1996. There is no case of cancer.

Laser hair removal does not cause infertility. It has no effect on fertility. Literature knowledge is in this direction, apart from that, in practice, more than ten thousand patients have been treated in our clinic since 2004. We observe that it has no effect on fertility.
