Laser hair removal is performed by a specialist dermatologist or plastic surgeon. The procedure is customized according to the person's skin type, hair color and sensitivity. During the procedure, the patient may feel a slight heat and pressure, but it is generally a painless experience.
Laser hair removal can be applied to various areas of the body. The most common areas include the legs, arms, underarms, bikini area and face. After a few sessions, the hair is noticeably thinned and becomes thinner and weaker.
I Took a Shower After the Laser
After the laser hair removal procedure, I felt a warmth and slight redness on my skin. This was a completely normal and expected reaction. My dermatologist emphasized a few important points to pay attention to after the procedure. Among these was the instruction not to shower for the first 24-48 hours after the procedure.
However, this instruction posed a bit of a problem for me. Showering is a very important part of my daily routine, especially in the summer months. Feeling clean and fresh is very important to me. For this reason, I wanted to take a shower immediately after the laser.
I discussed this issue in more detail with my dermatologist. He explained that showering could negatively affect my skin's healing process and increase the risk of infection. To convince me, he also shared scientific data on showering after laser hair removal.
Showering After Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal causes slight damage to the upper layers of the skin. This damage triggers the process of skin cell renewal and healing. However, showering early can negatively affect this healing process.
During the shower, hot water and soap can cause irritation and infection in the treated areas. In addition, the mechanical movement that occurs during the shower can damage sensitive areas on the skin. For this reason, it is recommended not to shower for at least 24-48 hours after laser hair removal.
Instead, it is a safer approach to clean the treated areas with a damp cloth or wet wipe. In this way, you can meet the need for cleaning while preserving the sensitivity of the skin.
Frequency of Showering After Laser Hair Removal
Another important point to consider about showering after laser hair removal is the frequency of showering. My dermatologist recommended that I refrain from showering for the first 24-48 hours. However, after this period, I could return to my normal shower routine.
However, if redness, swelling, or tenderness persists in the treated areas, I may need to reduce the frequency of showering even further. In such a case, it would be more appropriate to shower once a day or once every other day.
Also, make sure that the water temperature is lukewarm during the shower. Very hot water can increase skin sensitivity and slow down the healing process. I should also keep soap use to a minimum, and if possible, choose products specially formulated for sensitive skin.
