SUN SPOT (MELASMA) TREATMENT

Sunbathing, pregnancy, hormone treatments and birth control pills trigger sunspots. It is used in names such as Chloasma, Pregnancy or Postpartum Mask because it is more common in pregnant women.

Apart from hormonal mechanisms, it develops in men due to genetics and UV.

Sunspot is a fairly common problem. The incidence is high in young women. It is often bilateral and symmetrical in the facial region. It occurs more often in dark-skinned people. The mechanism of formation of the stain is that the cells that make color in these regions produce more color than those in the unstained region. Color cells are in the same number as in normal skin, but they are overworked. As a result, the sun-exposed areas immediately darken. The cause is unknown. Thyroid diseases can often be seen in people with sunspots.

Superficial sunspots respond better to treatment. Sunspots on the face are usually observed in areas exposed to the sun such as the upper lip, cheeks and forehead. Rarely, it can occur on the chin and forearms.

Spot creams, laser treatments and chemical peels used in sunspot treatment can be used alone or together. Those suffering from sunspots should regularly use sunscreen products with a factor of at least 50 every 4 hours during the day in summer and winter. In addition, even when using sunscreen, one should not be exposed to too much direct sun, take care to stay in the shade, and wear a hat and glasses. Colored (tinted) sunscreen with concealer should be used. Non-chemical physical sunscreens can be used more safely. Thus, both the spots are closed and the treatment is supported. Those with blemishes should definitely protect their facial area from the sun. Physical protection with a hat and mask is one of the most effective forms of protection.

Preliminary evaluation of the patient before treatment is extremely important.

In the first interview with the patient, evaluations such as the duration of the disease, its development and the factors that increase it are evaluated.

The depth of localization of hyperpigmentation in the skin, which causes melasma, is extremely important. Treatment selection is made with this assessment.
