WHAT IS GENITAL WARTS?

Genital wart is an infectious disease caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in the genital area. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world. Since it is a sexually transmitted disease, it is more common between the ages of 17-49. Its incidence is 1-2%, that is, it is seen in one or two people out of every hundred people in the society. Because the virus is transmitted by skin-to-skin contact, you can get sick even without full sexual intercourse. HPV can be transmitted in different ways other than sexually, such as contacting warts in different parts of the person's body.

Genital warts usually start as a pink-brown skin mole-like bump on the skin. If it is in a very moist area, it may also appear whitish. Although genital warts often do not show any symptoms; They can cause bleeding or itching.

The diagnosis of genital warts is usually made by doctors with a clinical examination. There are treatment options for the disease such as medical creams that the patient will apply at home or cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen) and electrocautery that the doctor will apply in the clinic.

Genital warts is an important disease. Because Human Papilloma virus also causes cervical cancer. Therefore, first of all, you need to be protected from the Human Papilloma virus. For protection, do not have sexual intercourse with people with suspected infection. If you have not been vaccinated, it is recommended that you be vaccinated.
